Hotel and Casino Questions

What are resort fees?

Resort fees are an additional fee that most Las Vegas hotels charge per night that are not included in the listed price. These fees will sometimes cover in-room Wi-Fi, daily newspapers and or fitness room access. Resort fees are normally not optional and they may be added to your hotel bill even if you are comped a room. These fees can range anywhere from $10 to $45 per night. Remember to factor in your resort fee when booking a room.

Is there a difference between booking a hotel room directly through the hotel's website or through a travel website?

Some travel websites negotiate cheaper prices for average rooms so if you book through them you could potentially end up with a room next to the ice machine or on a lower-level floor. If you book directly through the hotel’s website, however, the hotel may reward you by giving you a room with some nicer perks. In addition, many hotels also offer best rate guarantees where they will match a lower rate once it has been confirmed. Lastly, reservation cancellations on hotel websites tend to be more flexible, allowing guests to cancel anywhere from 72 to 48 hours before their stay.

NOTE: If purchasing a package with airfare the savings offered on travel sites may make up for the less-than-stellar room. Just weight your options to see what works best for you.

What is a player's card?

Player’s cards are a way for the casino to reward the casino guests for gambling or staying at their properties. The cards are free to obtain and are usually inserted into a gaming machine or given to the dealers at table games. They can also be used in some restaurants and retail stores within the casino. The more money you spend, the more points you get on your player account. Point rewards can range from free meals and drinks to complimentary rooms. After signing up, many casinos will include you in e-mails and offers for future discounted visits. The reward structure is different for each casino so check with the casino players club desk at the casino to get full reward details.

It should be noted that many casinos are owned by the same parent company. The back of the card will normally display all casinos that the card can be used at to obtain points.

Should I get a player's card?

If you like reward programs and want to get future offers for discounted stay then it is highly recommended to obtain players cards during your stay.

I'd like to try the table games. What's a good way to learn?

For a basic overview of common table games, checkout our Gambling page. To see play in action, most casinos have an in-room TV channel dedicated to table games and how to play them. If you want to get hands on experience then check with the casino personnel to see if they offer table game lessons. These lessons are typically held in the morning and are usually complimentary. Some casinos also offer instruction cards at the table games upon request.

Nightclub Questions

What's the difference between nightclubs and dayclubs?

A dayclub is a pool party experience that normally features live DJs. Some dayclubs also include gaming. Most dayclubs are open in the afternoon and into the evening. There is normally a cover charge and cabanas are available for rent. The dress code for dayclubs is pool attire. You must be 21 to be admitted to a dayclub.

Nightclubs also feature a live DJ and they are typically open in the late evening and into the early morning. Dress code is strictly enforced. Refer to the website of the nightclub for their dress code policies. You must be 21 to be admitted to a nightclub.

What are nightclub wristbands for?

Nightclub wristbands are given out near the casino that the nightclub is in. They are typically handed out by the staff of the club. A wristband does not guarantee quick nightclub entry. These are normally general admission wristbands which means you will still need to wait in a long line in an attempt to get into the nightclub. Sometimes complimentary drinks will be included for ladies until midnight but this is not always the case.

What is the difference between a nightclub wristband and the nightclub cards that people give out on the street?

The nightclub cards are normally not given out by employees of the nightclub. Many of these cards will have “complimentary” printed on them but the individual giving you these cards will still expect a tip ranging anywhere from $2 – $10 per card. The wristbands are a better option than the cards.

Free Offers

People are offering me free shows or free stays. What is that about?

Normally this is a time share offer. You will need to sit through a 2 or 3 hour high pressure sales pitch where they are trying to sell time share investments to you. If you do plan on attending be sure to schedule at least an hour more in time than what they tell you to get back to your hotel. If this seems worth your while then go for it otherwise politely nod and say, “Not Interested”.

Getting Around

Do I need to call a cab to pick me up outside of my hotel?

Taxi wait stations are available at most hotels near the front entrance so there is no need to call for a cab.

Can I hail a cab on the strip?

No. Some cabs might pull in to a nearby corner or entrance to wait for you but it is not legal for taxi cabs to pick up fares on the strip. You will have better luck getting a cab using the taxi wait stations at a nearby hotel.
